We all look forward to going away on holiday but most of us dread our time at the airport unless you have access to a lounge.
However, some airports around the world are trying to fight back by offering travellers something different including whiskey tasting at a distillery or sunbathing at a rooftop pool.
The annual Lounge of the Year Awards by Priority Pass has revealed its 2017 winners, voted for by more than 72,000 travellers.
Club Kingston at Jamaica’s Kingston Norman Manley Airport came out on top whilst Lennart Meri Airport in Tallinn, Estonia has the Best Lounge in Europe.
However, we thought that we would look at some of the airport lounges that offered something just that little bit different.
“Sleep N Fly” Lounge – Dubai
Here you will find a flatbed inside each Sleep Pod that comes with a table, USB port and charging facilities.
Earplugs also come as standard meaning that you can get some much-needed rest in between flights with a free hot shower nearby.
Wine Cellar and Tapas Bar – Dubai
The Ahlan Business Class Lounge has a superb collection of wines and creates the ultimate dining experience with an Arabic buffet.
“Almost @ Home Lounge” – Helsinki
This lounge offers something very different – a kitchen where you can cook and prepare your own food. If that all sounds too much, you could let the professionals do it whilst you relax in the complimentary knitted socks.
Games Lounge – Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo Intl Airport, Mexico
The VIP Lounge East should be your destination if you are a keen gamer. You will find a pool table, games room and a selection of video games to pass the time.
House of Spirits Distillery – Portland
Why not sit back, relax and enjoy a whiskey distilled at the airports very own distillery, made with ethically sourced ingredients.
The drinks they make include Westward American Single Malt Whiskey, Krogstad Aquavit, Volstead Vodka and Casa Magdalena Rum.
Rooftop Pool – Changi Airport, Singapore
Why not take a dip at the rooftop pool in the Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel, located in Terminal 1.
There’s also a Jacuzzi, poolside bar and shower facilities for travellers to enjoy while waiting for their next flight.
