Once a flight touches down we are all keen to just get away. However, for most of us, we have to wait for our luggage to come around on the carousel. However, there are a few things that we can do to speed up your luggage’s arrival.
One tactic that is often deployed is to ask check-in staff to attach a fragile sticker to your luggage. This should result in your bag coming out first as well as meaning that your baggage is more likely to be handled with care. However, these stickers can be missed on occasions so this is not a foolproof plan.
One idea that ramp and gate agent Thomas Lo Sciuto suggested on Quora is waiting to be the last person checked in.
“Bags will always be loaded front to back on the bag carts, so if you check in last, your bags will be in the last bag cart, which will make them the last on the aircraft, and the first off the aircraft at your destination. If they are the first off the aircraft, they will most likely be the first on the bag carts and then the first to be unloaded at baggage claim.”
It should be noted that loading and unloading procedures will vary by airline, aircraft, airport and even baggage handling team. This means that there is no guarantee that the last bags to be checked in will be the first off.
The best way to guarantee that your bags come off first is still the old-fashioned way – book first-class or business class seats. The only alternative way of getting a priority sticker is to join the airline’s frequent flier scheme – but you will probably need to get past the first tier level for this to make much difference.
