We recently had the pleasure of staying for a long weekend at the Movenpick NaJomtien between Pattaya and Sattahip and a pleasure it was. The ultra-modern property is well designed and laid out. You approach it down a long driveway from the Sukhumvit Road lined with villas and drive up the majestic ramp to the entrance way to the serviced apartments on the left and the hotel lobby on the right. We were allocated a room on the 25th floor overlooking the Gulf of Thailand which had a large balcony with glass screens allowing us to wake up to sounds of the ocean and views of Rin Island in the distance. The room was stylishly appointed with a large bathroom and circular bathtub, glass shower cubicle with a glass wall open to the bedroom. A lovely space to enjoy the weekend. The property has 35 floors and provides 260 spacious guest rooms.

We had cocktails in the Red Coral Lounge and ordered dinner whilst we enjoyed an aperitif, sat and enjoyed the views over the swimming pool to the water and beyond. Dinner was called soon after. The signature steakhouse restaurant T55 New York Grill has a wide range of quality American meat cuts – the steak knife cut through my medium rare tenderloin with hardly any pressure at all – it was sumptuous served with a side of sautéed spinach. My Thai partner decided to order Tom Yum Goong and she said it was aloi! The all-day dining facility on the ground floor – Twist Restaurant served us breakfast each day and the choice was varied, well presented and tasted good. The staff were attentive and took good care.

The Wave spa provides all the complimentary treatments to pamper your body after a long day at the beach or enjoying the large lagoon style pool. I had the most relaxing 90-minute deep tissue massage and the lavender oil put me completely at ease and gave me a good nights sleep afterwards. My partner had an aromatic therapy and we both slept like babies all night long with the patio doors open to the sound of the water kissing the beach until we woke early morning.

This is the ideal family weekend stay and is children friendly with a supervised playroom and the large pool and beachfront is a super place for kids to explore and play safely.

The surrounding areas are being built up as a family orientated destination with a host of family-friendly attractions – Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens, Silver Lake Vineyard, Underwater World, 2 large water parks – Cartoon Network and Ramayana, the Floating Market, Tiffany’s, Sattahip and of course the beaches to the Gulf of Thailand.

That’s without going anywhere near Pattaya city with its host of attractions, Walking Street and the international shopping facilities.

More than enough to keep the family entertained for a week or two and certainly entertained for a long weekend. I heartily recommend a visit.
